There are many internships that are offered during the summer break and some are offered during the school year part time. We do not require new college hires to have had an internship. That being said, I would highly recommend taking the opportunity if feasible for your situation. Internships are a great talent pipeline for many companies and as importantly, they also give you an opportunity to confirm or find the type of role you will be passionate in for your career and field of study.
Hope this Helps and Good Luck!

Internship requirements vary by school and even by program within those schools. Regardless if an internship is required or not, internships are a great way to get some insight into your field of study and can be done over a summer break. There are other ways to gain practical experience in your field by joining clubs, doing case study competitions, job shadowing professionals in the field, participating in research, and many other types of engagement. My biggest piece of advice would be to reach out to your career services or adviser, set up a meeting, and learn about the opportunities available to you. You may be surprised by just how many there are!
