If there are drinks provided or available at a networking event it is acceptable to have one or two. I wouldn't go overboard, but again if they are provided then it is acceptable to sip on one as you mingle and eat. If you are concerned at all just take a few minutes to observe what others are doing before you head to the drink table.

I agree with the previous response, take note of what's happening in the environment to govern your decision on whether to have a glass of wine. If drinks are provided, have a glass but remember the main focus of the event is to network and you want to be your best and sharpest self when talking to others especially about your skills, experiences and qualifications. If ever in doubt, get a non-alcoholic mocktail to drink as you network.

I also agree to those who answered before me. It is typical at these functions to have a drink or 2. If you are attending the networking function with colleagues, you should consider waiting for your most senior peer to order a drink. This will allow you to understand how those above you handle these functions when alcohol is being provided. Lastly, if you are under 21 years of age, I would not order a drink since you are not of a legal age to be ordering an alcoholic beverage and this would reflect badly on those you are trying to network with.
