This is a great question. The answer is ... it depends. There are many roles that require specific technical knowledge in order to perform the essential functions of the job (think engineering or accounting). Other fields may be far more flexible with the majors they accept. For example, a company filling a sales role may consider a variety of business or technical degrees as the indiviual likely needs business knowledge and technical product knowledge and are willing to develop the right individual. Another factor that may be taken into consideration is internship and work experience a candidate brings - someone with experience in a desired field and degree that is not directly related may have the right background for the position.
As you continue on your job search you should consider whether you may need some additional courses to prepare you for your desired field or whether your background and experiences are a fit for the job requirements and be prepared to articulate that fit. Good luck in your search.

The answer is it depends upon your field. If you are going into a field that requires a specific skill set and academic background then yes your major does matter as employers will not hire someone without the academic background to support the scope of the work, especially for recent grads who would not necessarily have the multiple years of experience to draw upon as a substitution for academic rigor. That being said, if you are going into a field that the employer has stated that you just need a degree, then no it does not really matter. As you are looking for positions, employers will specify in the basic requirements of the job what they are looking for from candidates academically. If you are unsure if you meet the basic qualifications or not I suggest speaking with your career services counselor and having him/her review the positions you are interested in, in light of your resume and background, to help you identify those areas in which you would be qualified to apply.

This really depends on the field. For professional fields such as medicine, science and law, the answer is YES. For a lot of other fields, it may not matter as much. For example, I have recruited project managers with degrees in mass communication, psychology, and even science in some cases. In that case, the employer is more concerned with experience and the major/minor is secondary. For "non-professional" fields, experience trumps credentials in most cases.
