I completed my third interview/lesson demonstration as a finalist last Monday. The principal said she wouldn't be in touch till the end of this week since she couldn't schedule the other finalists till this week but to be in touch for any reason. Should I be in touch or wait till Friday? I really want this job. Is it bad that they wanted to see the other finalists? Thank you!

I would recommend waiting until the end of the week to see if you hear from the principal. It’s great that the principal was honest with you that he/she was speaking with additional candidates this week. You do not want to overwhelm the principal if you know that the other candidates are interviewing this week. If you don’t hear back on Monday then I would recommend reaching out as a follow-up on your interview and continuing to show your interest in the position. Good luck!

In my personal opinion, I don’t think it’s a bad sign that they wanted to see the other finalists prior to making a decision. I would assume they are trying to be fair to all candidates and allow enough time for them to complete the interview process since their schedule may not have allowed them to interview any sooner. This is fairly common for hiring managers and recruiters to finish out the interview process with all identified candidates to ensure they have the opportunity to make a well informed decision and select the best candidate for the job. If they told you they would be in touch the end of this week, I would recommend waiting until Friday or Monday to follow-up since this was the timeline you were given.

I would wait until Monday. You don't want to be too pushy when they set expectations for you. If you really feel a desire to get your name in front of them before that, send a thank you email for the last interview & express that you are very interested in moving forward.

Seeing other finalists is definitely not a bad thing. Competition is healthy for making critical hiring decisions.

Good Luck!!

Congratulations on making it this far in the interview process!  I don’t think it is a bad sign that the company is interviewing other final candidates, it is very rare that an employer would not have several candidates in the interview process at the same time.
I would wait until Monday to contact the person you interviewed with – They are probably very busy interviewing the other candidates and you do not want to be seen as a high maintenance candidate.  If you have not heard back from the company by Monday or Tuesday, then it would be very appropriate for you to follow up with them.  Best of luck!
