What are the most effective qualities in a strong leader and manager?

Some of the most effective qualities that ADP Leaders possess are Time Management, Adaptability, Creativity, Passion for their work, Communication and the ability to manage a dynamic set of employees. These are just a few of the qualities that our Leaders display on a daily bases.

Communication, flexibility, delegation, and dependability are all effective qualities of a strong leader. Emotional intelligence is also a quality of a great leader and equally, if not more important. This includes being able to manage and identify your emotions, as well as others emotions. Based on Psychology Today, this generally includes three skills: (1) emotional awareness; (2) being able to harness emotions and apply them to tasks like thinking and problem solving; and (3) the ability to manage emotions, which includes regulating your own emotions and cheering up or calming down other people.

In my opinion some of the most effective leadership qualities include honesty, trust, clear communication, great listening skills and respect. In my experience I have found teams and organizations to function much more effectively when their leader is open and honest and has the ability to share information quickly and with full transparency. This will enable trust both within teams and with leadership. When trust is present employees are more effective at work, more likely to give their best at work, work more collaboratively take risks and achieve goals. Having a leader who is honest and can nurture an environment of trust within and across their teams is definitely an effective leadership quality.

A great leader also has great communication skills and is able to communicate a clear vision and strategy to their team or organization. They are able to explain how the work being done contributes to that overall vision or the broader organization's goals. An effective leader has the ability to communicate in diverse methods because people learn and gather information in all different ways (email, video, in person, one on one conversations etc.)

Listening skills are just as important. Some great leaders may actually do less talking and more listening. They need to be in tune with what is going on around them at all times and be able to digest all the information coming in quickly. They need to be open to hearing diverse perspective and ideas from everyone on the team and also finding ways to encourage participation of all team members. This skill also contributes to respect. A great leader has respect for their teams and values that each member has a voice and brings diverse backgrounds. A great leader fosters a collaborative environment that celebrates and respects diversity of thought and ensures that everyone has an opportunity to contribute

There are many other qualities that contribute to strong leadership, these are just a few that are definitely important!
