This really depends on the field. For professional fields such as medicine, science and law, the answer is YES. For a lot of other fields, it may not matter as much. For example, I have recruited project managers with degrees in mass communication, psychology, and even science in some cases. In that case, the employer is more concerned with experience and the major/minor is secondary. For "non-professional" fields, experience trumps credentials in most cases.
