Yes, it is ok to reach out to a connection you may have at the company of interest. In doing so, you should ensure that your skill set aligns with the position. For example, if the company is an accounting firm, but your major is philosophy, that may not be a good fit, depending upon the position. If you feel that your skills are a match, have the courage to utilize your connection for a potential referral into the company.
